Memories from Grandpa’s Shed

BALGONIE, SK – A few years ago, my sister and I were exploring the ancient, decrepit wooden sheds on my grandparents’ farm, as we used to do in the summers growing up. On this occasion, we discovered a trunk filled with memories; notes, mementos, and old photo negatives from roughly the 1930s-1960s. Forgotten since before I was born, these photos belong to an unknown family who lived in the area of Balgonie, Saskatchewan, likely on the homestead now owned by my grandparents since the 90s.

These negatives have faded and worn, stained with the scars of time (and wildlife), caked in dust and slowly rotting away. The people who took these photos have likely long ago passed on, these are what remains of their memories.

Update: According to my grandma Pat, these photos likely belonged to Betty Howie and her husband Howard who owned the property before my family did. They have since passed away and had no children.
