Condition: Like New

This unique Showa-era figurine blends the traditional Japanese kokeshi doll style with the robust form of an ancient warrior. Its body, tightly encased in a thin, coated rope, exhibits a tactile aesthetic rarely seen in typical kokeshi dolls, which are usually characterized by their smooth, minimalist wooden forms. The figurine’s face is carved from wood, displaying a stoic expression fitting for a soldier. It seems to be inspired by Jomon period clay figures, but the details of its origin and production are unknown.

This piece was acquired at a market in the Philippines, adding an international layer to its already intriguing provenance.
